Client Q&A: What They're Saying About Edit This

Updated: Jul 18, 2019

I'd like to share a brief Q&A I had recently with a longtime client. This is excellent feedback for me regarding what I do here at Edit This® and a good read for any of you who may still be on the fence about hiring a quality writer and editor.

Kelly Murray and husband, Scott, own Murray Media Group in Flower Mound, Texas. Murray Media specializes in domestic and international magazine publishing as well as marketing, graphic design, direct mail, website design, and brand management for companies ranging from Fortune 500 to Mom & Pops.

I've done a lot of work over the years for the Murrays in publications such as Lantana Living, Argyle Living, Lake Cities Living, Life in Castle Hills, and Best of Denton County. In February, Kelly asked if Edit This would handle ALL their writing and editing needs.

It's been a fantastic partnership – at least, that's what I think! Does Kelly agree?

ET: Please share what Edit This does for you?

Kelly Murray: We've used Edit This for editing services on existing stuff because clients will sometimes submit something, and it's great to have you comb over it and make sure they sound as professional as they'd like to sound. We use you for writing spotlights about our business clients, community interest stories, and hunting down and reporting on what readers want to read about the most.

ET: How has that been working so far?

Kelly Murray: Good! The demand has increased as more of our clients understand the importance of telling their story, blogging, and using all kinds of other services to connect with customers. I think it's been good, and I'm sure you've seen a demand for things you do outside of what we need.

ET: What led you to needing a quality writer?

Kelly Murray: It's important to have quality content, and it's important to have a lot of content. And that comes down to time and energy. It's a lot easier to have someone else write the information for you – even if you have the ability to write – because you're running a business and you don't always have time to do it yourself. And, I think someone from the outside is often a better writer on the subject because they are writing it from a perspective that the reader wants to read, whereas a business owner may write it from their own understanding instead of the consumer's perspective.

ET: How has Edit This helped you stand out?

Kelly Murray: There's a lot of magazines around here and lots of other online and print publications, so ultimately you need content people want to read. There's competition in everything you do, and for small businesses, it's so important to tell their story. They don't have a huge marketing budget, so they have to get to the heart of it and share why they do what they do and what makes them different. I think around here, readers connect with the owners personally and want to do business with them.

ET: What's the feedback from clients?

Kelly Murray: One thread I hear the most about you is that when you are writing on a business, you are writing about the heart of the business and the people behind it. So many people write about the facts and figures, but I can go to a website and read that. You tell the why behind what they do and share their story. That gives the reader a better understanding of the person behind the business. Our clients love that.

ET: What is Edit This' greatest strength?

Kelly Murray: You're easy to talk to. Our clients feel comfortable and feel like they can have a conversation. You listen and then take what they say and put it in a way the business owner wants to be portrayed.

ET: Does Edit This have any weaknesses?

Kelly Murray: No! You're perfect – I tell you that all the time!

Thanks to Kelly Murray for being a good sport with this Q&A. And thank you for reading! You can read a few shorter testimonials here, or visit my company Facebook page.
