I love to blog. Not only is it a creative outlet for me personally, but the number of ways blogging has benefited Edit This®, and the companies we blog for, are seemingly endless.
This blog post isn't about the benefits of blogging or how much I love it, though.
I mean, it kind of is. But I'd rather talk about the benefits of being consistent with your blogs – because, with any blogging strategy, consistency and frequency are crucial.
Isn't it that way for basically anything in life? Take working out for instance. If you are diligent about hitting the gym for two weeks, but then take a few months off and then maybe go twice a week or once a month, you're not going to make any progress, right?
In fact, all the starting and stopping only leaves you sore, miserable, and unmotivated.
It's the same thing for blogging. Marketing gurus can give advice to business owners all day long on what to blog about, how to make money as a full-time blogger, and even how to get people to read your blog posts, but none of those blogging tips and strategies matter if you aren't consistent.
What does blogging consistently and frequently mean? Consistency means maintaining a strategy over a long period. Frequency is how often you publish within that strategy. For some, it means daily while for others it means once a week.
Where you fall in that spectrum is up to you, but once you set a schedule, stick to it. The last thing you want is for readers to be like, "Hey, where did he go?" I promise you, there isn't a single blogging strategy out there where it's OK to take three or four months off.
Below are 6 benefits of consistent and frequent blogging:
1. You become the authority
There are so many authoritative voices out there, regardless of industry, and it can feel like it will take eons to do what they did and rise to the top of your niche. It's not going to take eons – but it's not going to happen overnight, either. So set out knowing that consistently churning out relevant and engaging content post after post will eventually pay off big for you and your business.
2. Readers can count on your blogs
If you watch the video above in its entirety, we both talk about how quickly readers of your blog will come to expect that you post frequently. The more you post, the more they come back, the more they will engage with you, the more they will trust your message, the more entrenched your brand will be, and the more successful you will become.
3. Your website will have a purpose
What's the point of having that expensive website if it isn't updated with value-added, relevant content that is consistent? Consistent blogging will increase your site traffic over time. That means visitors won't just visit – they'll stick around to learn more.
4. Your leads will grow
It goes without saying that as you blog consistently and more frequently, the more likely visitors will become leads. And obviously, the goal with any lead is to what? That's right, convert them into a customer.
5. Consistent blogging keeps you organized
I threw this one in here because I cannot stress enough the importance of being on top of your game as a business owner. Blogging requires time and discipline, and that translates to other areas of your business more than you think. I have always been an organized person, but having my own blog – and consistently posting every week – forces me to be even more intentional with how I prepare and research each week.
6. Fresh content is Google's love language
The more consistent you are with pumping out fresh content, the more you will be loved on by Google, which will find plenty to index as it crawls your site. This improves your search engine ranking, especially since new content keeps visitors on your site longer.
As I told a client last week, Rome wasn't built in a day (cliche alert, I know). You have to stay consistent with anything in life to see the benefits, and blogging is no different. I hope the benefits above were enough to convince you to be more consistent in your approach.
