Is It Bad To Read Competitor Blogs?

You're sitting there late at night, trying hard to come up with a blog topic that customers want to read. Just when you're about to give up, the thought hits you: what are my competitors blogging about? No. I can't do that. Can I? Is it bad to read competitor blogs?

Reading competitor blogs may feel like a big no-no and perhaps a little naughty. But so long as you're not copying them, I'm here to tell you there is nothing wrong with this tactic.

You can learn a lot from reading competitor blogs:

* What topics perform the best.

* What keywords you're overlooking.

* Ideas for future blogs.

* How to change up your content.

* How to put your spin on similar topics.

* How to make your company stand out.

* What you're doing right.

* What you're doing wrong.

* What your competitor is doing wrong.

* Are they copying you?!

Go ahead ... Snoop around!

Again, the goal isn't to read a competitor's blog and say, "Oh, that's a great topic," and then do the old cut and paste job. That's not fair to all the hard work your competitor put in.

On top of that, it doesn't make you look good at all.

But it isn't bad to read competitor blogs. In fact, I'd say it's bad if you don't!
