My friends Joe and Diane Mayes at Patchouli Joe's Books & Indulgences hosted the first (and long-awaited) Denton Writers' Roundtable on Wednesday at their insanely-popular bookstore on the square. And if you missed it, you really have to be there for the next one!

The idea behind the event is to kick-start an inclusive writers' group in our community to share tips and tricks, learn from each other, hear each other's stories, and build lasting relationships.

More importantly, the goal is to inspire writers of all experience levels to KEEP WRITING!

I was invited to be on a panel with several other Denton-based authors for the Wednesday event. We shared our experiences with navigating the writing process, the business of publishing, finding literary agents, how honoring the editing process factors into a great book, and the unique journey we each took on our way to finally getting published.

The star-studded list of authors in attendance included:

  • Donna Fielder, former Denton Record-Chronicle investigative reporter, humor columnist, and author of Lady Killer, Let's Kill Mom and other titles

  • Janet Sever Hull, author of The Button Box and more

  • Mike Cochran, author of John B. Denton: The Bigger-Than-Life Story of the Fighting Parson and Texas Ranger

  • Steve Gamel, author of Write Like You Mean It: Mastering Your Passion For The Written Word and owner of a writing and editing services company called Edit This®

I am honored to have been included in this event, and I just wanted to take a quick second to thank everyone who showed up. From aspiring writers to librarians, editors, veteran authors, and more, our audience was fantastic, gracious, and came armed with great questions.

And a few of them even bought a copy of my book!

Be sure to follow Patchouli Joe's on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter so that you can stay up-to-date with any future events as they unfold. Word on the street is that I will be hosting a follow-up event at the bookstore closer to June!

How can you get your hands on Write Like You Mean It?

Write Like You Mean It is fully distributed, meaning that you can pretty much get it anywhere books are sold. That includes Patchouli Joe's if you're in the Denton area!
