Early Reactions to My New Book, Write Like You Mean It

The phone only rang twice before my dad picked up and said, "Hello?" It was great to hear his voice, but the thing is, he never answers the phone at their house. It's always m. Being the worrywart that I am, I instantly thought something was wrong.

"Oh, hey! What are you doing?" I asked.

"Cleaning up," he said. "Your mother is sitting outside reading your book. It came today."

Before I could get another syllable out, dad started unloading a series of questions about the book (Write Like You Mean It: Mastering Your Passion For The Written Word), how everything is going with it since it was officially released on September 14, and if I thought my publisher, Brown Books Publishing Group, did a good job.

More importantly, he wanted to tell me how proud he was of me.

And once he handed the phone off to my mom, they both doubled down on those feelings.

"You're a really good writer, Steven," my mom said. "You always have been. I skipped to the end to find my name in the thank yous, but now I'm back to the beginning and am on Page 8."

I'm sharing this story because my parents represent an overwhelming amount of support and excitement for this book from friends, family, and clients. If it wasn't a phone call to say congrats, it was a text message saying, "How do I get a copy?" And then there were the social media posts, which honestly still have me bowled over with emotion.
