I always struggle to stay succinct during this joyous time of year. Anyone who knows me will agree I wear my heart on my sleeve—so it should come as no surprise that I can't say or write enough times how grateful I am to have my family and every one of you in my life.

I know, I know. All of that sounds incredibly cliché. And yes, someone who makes a living as a writer and storyteller should probably come up with something a little more original.

But the truth is, the most meaningful words we share aren’t always the most polished.

Sometimes they’re simply the ones that come straight from the heart.

So today, before the holiday rush truly begins, I want to take a moment to say thank you—for reading, for being a meaningful part of my life each and every day, and, of course, for allowing me to be even a small part of your creative journey.

Happy Thanksgiving From Our Family at Edit This!

We truly have so much to be thankful for, and I hope each of you takes at least a little time over the next day or so to express that gratitude. In fact, I want to challenge you to grab a notepad and pen and do it right now! That's right—write down a list of everything you are thankful for, whether related to work, life, family, health, or something else.

Remind yourself of these blessings!

Then, share that list with your loved ones! You'll be surprised how long your list gets.

What Am I Thankful For?

  1. My family.

  2. My kids (I am so blessed to be a dad).

  3. My wife.

  4. God, of course! Who are we without the Big Man in our corner?

  5. The health of my entire family.

  6. My career—I'm blessed to be a writer.

  7. My team. That sounds fantastic to say! I have a team! Thank you Lori Fickling, Mike Kirkpatrick, and Jen Adame for helping me take Edit This into the future.

  8. Everyone (and I mean everyone) who came into my life this year.

  9. Everyone who remains in my life after all these years.

  10. Everything new I've learned this year.

  11. The ability to share my knowledge with others.

  12. All the pain and hard lessons we learn from each day.

  13. All the unconditional love in my life.

  14. Random bursts of inspiration (Yes, I said it!)

  15. Grammarly! :)

  16. More time to spend with my family.

  17. A lifetime of memories.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving. Eat lots of food. Take lots of naps.

More importantly be present with your family.
