New Book for writers ... Write Like You Mean It: Mastering Your Passion for the Written Word

Someone asked me during the final stages of the publishing process if my book, Write Like You Mean It: Mastering Your Passion For The Written Word, has any characteristics that set it apart from other books on writing.

I mean, yes, it is definitely chock full of great stuff that every writer can benefit from. And I'd like to think that there isn't anything else like it out there on the market in terms of the unique content it offers. But I will stop short of saying that Write Like You Mean It is the be-all-end-all of books on writing and editing.

There are so many amazing authors who illuminated the writing and editing path well before I came along, and their books are phenomenal in their own right. I simply see my book as a great addition to your collection of books on writing, which should also include:

  1. On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King

  2. On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction by William Zinsser

  3. The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White

  4. The Poets & Writers Complete Guide to Being a Better Writer: Everything You Need to Know About Craft, Inspiration, Agents, Editors, Publishing, and the Business of Building a Sustainable Writing Career by Kevin Larimer and Mary Gannon

  5. Bird By Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott

And that's not even a complete list. There are simply so many great titles out there.

With Write Like You Mean It, I want to walk alongside those esteemed authors, earn my place at the proverbial writer's table with them, and talk about the world of writing from my own experiences. I want to expand upon the conversations they started, speak to all writers, and share what I’ve learned on my journey to mastering my passion for the written word.

I want to speak to journalists, bloggers, fiction and nonfiction writers, and creative writers.

I want to speak to the up-and-comers who aren’t quite sure if they have the chops to write or question if they are brave enough to put their work out there. And, among other things, I want to share tips on how to be a better writer tomorrow than you were today.

I think this book accomplishes that – in its own unique way – and, if I do say so myself, has its own voice in a sea of great books on writing and editing.
