It's been a little more than seven months since my book, Write Like You Mean It: Mastering Your Passion for the Written Word, was released worldwide. If you're a writer and don't have this book yet, I suggest you add it to your collection of books about writing.

Just a few of the topics discussed in this book include:

  1. Overcoming your fear of writing

  2. What writer's block is telling you

  3. How to become a successful freelancer

  4. Tips on how to write fiction and nonfiction

  5. How to be a better editor

  6. The art of quality storytelling

  7. How to get published

  8. And so much more ...

With Write Like You Mean It, I talk about the world of writing from my own experiences. I expand upon the conversations that other writers like Stephen King, William Zinsser, Anne Lamott, and so many others started well before I came along. I also speak to all writers and share what I’ve learned on my journey to mastering my passion for the written word.

That includes journalists, bloggers, fiction and nonfiction writers, and creative writers. It also includes up-and-comers who aren’t quite sure if they have the chops to write or question if they are brave enough to put their work out there.

For all of them, I share tips on being a better writer today than you were yesterday.

I think this book accomplishes that – in its own unique way – and, if I say so myself, it has its own voice in a sea of great books on writing and editing.

What I Mean When I say, Write Like You Mean It

Write Like You Mean It means putting all your heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears into your passion for writing. As writers, our words are our stock in trade. We are craftsmen. We are artists. Our audience deserves to see and feel each word we put on a page. So rather than pencil whip something just to "get it done and out there" or write for the sake of writing, we should be writing with purpose.

We should believe that whatever we've written deserves to see the light of day rather than being tucked away on a dusty bedroom shelf somewhere.

This means surrounding ourselves with mentors, accepting constructive criticism, reading with a critical eye, perfecting the art of storytelling, and taking pride in what we've put into words!

We need to WRITE LIKE WE MEAN IT!
