Happy Birthday to My Book, Write Like You Mean It

Updated: Mar 8

I must admit that it feels strange wishing Happy Birthday to a book. But what can I say? Write Like You Mean It: Mastering Your Passion For The Written Word is officially a year old!

So, I'm going to celebrate this massive life achievement unapologetically!

It was exactly one year ago yesterday that I stood patiently by while Milli Brown, Founder and CEO of Brown Books Publishing Group in Dallas, handed me the inaugural copy of my first book. My palms were sweaty as I nervously rubbed them against the insides of my pockets.

I didn't know what to say, which came as a complete shock to me and likely everyone else who is used to me never being at a loss for words.

But I think the look on my face says it all.

At the time, BBPG President and COO Tom Reale told me, "Now the hard part begins." And, boy, was he right. Since that amazing day, we've been working hard to get Write Like You Mean It in front of as many people as possible. I've done everything from book signings to speaking engagements, book fairs, interviews, and networking events. I've also had the good fortune to meet with several school superintendents, public librarians, journalism teachers, English teachers, and more.

I am passionate about educating the next generation of writers. This book achieves that by equipping writers of all experience levels and professional pursuits with trade secrets, versatile tools, and actionable steps to master their passion for the written word while emphasizing its purpose: drawing readers in with quality content and style.

Just a few of the chapters you'll read about include:

  1. Overcoming your fear of writing

  2. What writer's block is telling you

  3. Tips on how to write fiction and nonfiction

  4. The art of quality storytelling

  5. How to get published

  6. And so much more ...

I aim to see this book end up in every high school and college in the country because, as I'm sure you agree, being able to write and communicate effectively is extremely important, no matter your career.

So while I am excited about what has happened during a whirlwind of a first year, I can't wait to see what the future holds. Thank you so much for celebrating this special time with me!
