Write Like You Mean It Isn't Just a Book Title: Learn To Write With Purpose

Over my many years as a writer, I've learned that good writing isn’t just about learning the rules. Every part of the writing process requires careful thought and intentionality, and five years ago, I was thrilled to cover that very topic in my book, Write Like You Mean It.
Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to reflect on the ideas and lessons that shaped the book. In today's blog, I want to revisit them by walking through the book’s three main sections.
It's All About Writing With Purpose

Start Writing
Getting started can sometimes be the hardest part of writing. In this section, I explain why you shouldn’t be afraid to write, how to use active voice, why pen and paper are still useful for writers, and what writer’s block is actually telling you. The goal is to get started, not perfection!
Writing to a Purpose
In this section, I encourage you to explore the goal for whatever it is that you are writing, with chapters on journalism, nonfiction, and fiction. Writing can be a creative pursuit and career, so there’s also information on how to become a successful freelance writer.
Write Like You Mean It to Be Read
Once you have your writing, how do you get other people to read it? This section walks you through the editing process, marketing your work, and getting published.
Why I Wrote Write Like You Mean It
Write Like You Mean It is my personal love letter to writing, writers, and the writing craft. And yes, it's the perfect gift for creatives of all levels and backgrounds, whether they’re professional writers or aspiring writers looking to improve their skills.
Just a few of the topics covered in this book include:
Overcoming your fear of writing
What writer's block is trying to tell you
The importance of active listening
The art of quality storytelling
How to become a successful freelancer
Tips on how to write fiction and nonfiction
How to get published
I genuinely believe in helping you be a better writer tomorrow than you are today! I want to speak to journalists, bloggers, fiction and nonfiction writers, and creative writers. I want to talk to the up-and-comers who aren’t quite sure if they have the chops to write or question if they are brave enough to put their work out there.
Many of you have been part of my journey as a writer, business owner, and published author, and it’s especially meaningful to share my book with you.
If you’ve ever thought about polishing your writing skills, writing professionally, or being more confident in your own voice, I hope Write Like You Mean It gives you something useful.
Thank you for reading!
